About Me
Living in Brisbane, I am studying a Certificate III & IV in Fitness, and aiming towards certification in Pilates and Yoga eventually. When I am not studying or testing out new exercises/recipes etc. I am running a bohemian/gypsy/ethnic inspired fashion store in the city.
This blog ultimately revolves around my love of living a cleaner, happier and healthier life, vegetarian recipes, and other ill things which tickle my fancy like organic beauty and eco-friendly finds. It also includes workouts I find in my trawlings of information (textbooks, magazines, websites etc.), and snippets that inspire me in my journey of learning and certification in Pilates and Yoga.
This passion for a healthier life has definitely been one I have had to learn- I come from a family where processed foods, refined carbs and sugars, meat pies and any meat in fact were a staple…and well if you got 3 veg…then bonus you were covered! And if you were Vegetarian or Vegan you probably were daft or needed a lobotomy. Fitness equalled walking up to the shops to get fish and chips and coke to wash it down. Great fun at the time- but by the time I hit my 20s and went to University (I studied Psychology and Nursing) the kilos were piling on …. It didn’t matter that I ran track in first year (I have no idea how I managed, looking back) - The M&Ms and milk coffee drinks…oh aaaand the cigarettes and drugs were undoing any good a run did. Eventually there was a realisation that a body only works so well before failing, when you have no respect for it. Both my parents have ongoing health problems due to habits they have had their whole lives- my Dad, a big beer drinker from waaaaaaay back suffers from kidney problems, and god knows what else…and my Mum has diabetes Type 2, Chronic Fatigue, and Fibromyalgic-like symptoms.
So four years into my University studies, sitting at 75 kg on a small 165 cm frame, I was miserable, tired, cranky and no longer able to run a full kilometre let alone five. So I woke up and massive life changes and re-education ensued! So here I am 5 years later, 20 kilos lighter, a hell of a lot happier, and heading down a different, healthier more balance path. Yay!
Join me in my continued discoveries here.
